Dream Job Wish List - Figure Out What You Were Meant to Do

If you are like most people you work because you have bills that need to get paid, but are you working at your dream job? The answer may not be so cut and dry because you may not even know what your dream job is. While working is simply a fact of life for most everyone on the planet, if you find your dream job and love what you do for work, it will be like you aren't even working at all.
So how do you figure out what your dream job is? The best way is to create a dream job wish list.

There are four things that you need to consider in order to formulate your dream job wish list:

1.    What do you like doing in your spare time: Many times, the things you enjoy doing the most may be what you are best suited for career wise. Now this doesn't meant that you can get a job watching football games on the weekends, but you should consider what you like to do when you are not working. Consider everything from sports you like to entertainment you like and then write it all down.

2.    What job related things are you looking for: No matter what you do there are certain things you want to get out of a job besides a paycheck. Consider things that are important to you in this area like commute time, benefits, and hours worked. Again write down your results.

3.    What type of work environment do you like: Do you want to work for a huge corporate giant or do you want to work in an environment that is a little less daunting? Do you like to be around a lot of people or a select few? Do you like high pressure or do you want to feel more laid back? Once again write down what you feel.

4.    What do you like about your current job: What do you like about the job you have now or ones you have had in the past? Consider things such as did you like to lead, be part of a team, contribute independently, things of that nature. Whatever your thoughts are, you guessed it, write them down.

What you will now have is a piece of paper with all of your thoughts from the four questions above. This is your dream job wish list. Now you need to study your wish list and begin to put together the information to help you determine what it is you really want out of your working life. This may take some time and the answer will probably not leap off the page at you. But what you will begin to see is that careers you may have never before even thought of might start to sound good to you because they fit many of the parameters of your dream job wish list.

When talking about your former company that you've worked for don't reveal to much of the bad stuff. The old boss might have been a complete idiot and the people there treated you badly but please skip the 'juicy' details for the 'new boss' ears. Be prepared for the question; "So why did you leave your position at the former company you worked at?" Convert the answer from perhaps "I didn't get along with my boss" to "I wanted a change of scenery and grow with some new challenges". Keep the answers neutral and for your benefit. Well not to fancy either as I have experienced quite the opposite arriving at H&M wearing a Grey suit getting the comment; "Well this job doesn't really suit you" making a remark on the 'suit' part. I had to quickly make a joke about it saying "I take this interview really serious", a mild smile and soon the suit jacket was off.

So, stand out and wear something casually yet trendy to show that your up to date. For an interview with a surf clothing company don't show up in board shorts but a pair of trendy jeans and a printed t-shirt, wear a suit jacket on top and mix casual with dressed to make it a bit formal but still showing a fun, creative and interesting side and approach. Going to a shoe company it's a good idea to impress by wearing a pair of stunning new boots, this will tell that you have a genuine interest in their products and that your ready to fit in the group.

Tip 8. Down to the real deal!
Sitting in front of your 'perhaps future' employer its important to be honest and frank with any plans and perhaps religion holidays that you already have made, well whatever you have that might affect the ability to work certain hours or days. If you have any booked holiday or plans coming up make sure to tell them now. But don't start demanding anything and be humble when your at the 'getting to learn this person' position. Stating with to many days off or demands might scare them off, its important to show them that your going to be available and dedicated to this new job of yours.

I'm not a big believer in the right 'skills' and always think that its all a combination of personality and team work, the necessary skills will come as you grow into the duties of the job.

Your local job search, on average, is expected to take between 4 1/2 and 8 months. Why should this be? We are not in The Great Depression.

Successfully finding the job you want will break down into four areas. As you improve your skills in each area, the time for your job search shortens and the quality of your new job will increase. Gain an edge. There is no reason for your job search to be average.

1. Attitude
Can you keep your head while everyone else is running around claiming that the sky is falling? Whether you have lost your job or are looking for something better then cheer up. It couldn't have happened at a better time and you will see this as we talk about job search technology.

As difficult as things might look, begin to see it as an opportunity to build your future. Many feel a release with great weights being lifted off them as they are released from that old job; there is baggage there that may not be obvious. Look forward to a new opportunity, new people in your life, and a freedom to explore where you'd like to go in life.

If you are bitter or hold any negativity over anything just release it. There is no value in spending so much energy in emotions when that same energy can speed you into that new job. How to Write a Great Objective Statement on Your Resume

A career objective statement is so often simply stated on the resume as "statement." It is your opportunity to state your career goals. Now this may sound simple. We know your objective and that is to get a great job that pays well and keeps you challenged and interested.

In actual practice this may be the most difficult part of the resume to craft. It should be limited to one or two sentences and you need to present your professional expertise, expectations from the job and the organization to which you are applying.

Not so simple now, is it?
It is usually considered a mistake to not include an objective.;people believe that the objective is obvious. The objective is to get the job you are applying for. This only seems obvious.

Now look at the objective from the employer's point of view. They may have a stack of resumes and all of the people who have provided them have the same unspoken objective. They want the job for which the interviewer is hiring. They need to know what a person is looking for so they can know whether to move you forward in the process.

You need an objective statement that will get you an interview!

Do not include an objective statement that does not actually state your goals and your qualifications. An example of this type of statement would be: To find a position that is challenging where I can utilize my experience." There is nothing specific in this statement and doesn't say anything about professional growth.

Do not use generic statements like the one above. It will hurt you and they never help. This type of statement will leave the employer with the impression that you have no specific goals in mind.
Okay, so now we know some things to avoid, what should we actually do? Remember, the goal here is to get that interview.

The statement needs to be as personal as possible. Actually, the resume is nothing more that a sales tool. The career objective is your opening statement. Your statement needs set you apart from the other applicants. You need to decide what you want and state it in a positive and powerful statement.
Your objective should express your commitment to your career goal. If you don't know what you want, how is your employer supposed to be convinced that you really want the job they are offering? They need to believe that you are not applying just to get away from your current position. Do not hesitate to express your wants from both the job and the organization.

So, even though you have stated your objective you need to convince the employer that you are willing to do what needs to be done to achieve this goal. Say what you intend to do to get where you want to go.

One of the most important aspects of your career objective is to be specific about what you are looking for in a work environment. "Challenging" doesn't mean a thing to the employer. Everyone has a different idea of "challenging." Don't use generic terms or terms that tend to be broad. Just tell them what you want and what you will do to get it.

So, having learned what to do, let's revise the above statement into a dynamic and usable objective. Now, we can tell them what we want.

"My objective is to obtain a position as a Customer Service Representative in the telecommunications industry where I can use my management and customer relation skills, with the opportunity for performance-based advancement."

Now, the employer knows what kind of position you want and what experience you have to qualify for the position. They also know that you are interested in career advancement.

Can't Find a Job? - Tips to Help You Find One

Desperately searching for job? Hopelessly thinking you won't find one? Don't be. There are times in life when we need to be tough and fight. Filling yourself with hope and raising your head up high pay are important parts in keeping yourself alive and moving towards the right direction. Here are a few tips for you to raise those hopes and confidence in you during these tough times of life. Here they go.

1. Join the group of positive thinking people. Being positive keeps you alive and hopeful. It also spreads its wings into many benefits you can enjoy in life both in short term and long term. Being positive doesn't mean you are less careful about life and events that surround you but it means to have that good hope, though how tiny, with you all the time and remember to cherish that hope within you very often during your day-to-day events. Build a habit of positive thinking and you will strike the same kind of thinking back to you and thus make you happy and able to breathe smoothly during those tough periods. It is also a good practice to spend some time during the day maybe three short sessions a day to practice easy meditation.

First when you wake up.Do take time to picture yourself with your desired outcome and hang in there for a while. At the same time you can practice easy meditation that helps you remain calm and ease the process of picturing yourself by breathing deeply and slowly. Feel the air entering your nostril and go all the way down to your navel. Hold it there for a few seconds and then slowly exhale from the navel up to your nostril feeling the air moving out.

 When you breathe in you can say in your mind the word "in" and "out" when it is out. This keeps your mind to concentrate with the breathing and skip your worries about the upcoming problems you may have. This short rest within can help bring you the awareness within and you can be at peace though for a short moment. The other two sessions can be during your lunchtime and after dinner. Give some time to yourself and reward it with something worthwhile.

2. Open yourself to other job search. Don't stick yourself to one or two occupation. Open up and try new things. Be creative here and you will find the possibility can be endless sometime. Not finding a job will not be your problem any longer. Dreaming helps flow your creative juices. When looking at job posts you may be creative by asking yourself some questions that help you understand the positions posted and thus help you better prepare for the interview. Life is about taking new risks anyway. So be brave and put in all you have to the best. This way you will never have to shout "I can't find a job".

3. Willing to take any job that may be lower than your expectation and take the best experience out of it. That way you can earn yourself a good experience and thus it becomes part of your interesting portfolio or resume. In order to be able to take the best out of it you will have to put in all your effort into the duty and make it even better through your ability. That way you can say you have created something of value to where you belong and voila you are a promising employee standing out of the crowd wherever you go pitching. And you will never say "I can't find a job" because you know jobs will find you instead.

Hope these tips help and please remember this "it is always good to dream big and go for it. Computer: State the fact you are knowledgeable in Excel, etc.

The mission is to uncover everything you have done to show worthiness for the job. In fairness, always state your actual experiences and/or qualifications. Sometimes, one is hired before the complete background check is done. If a false statement is uncovered that equals immediate termination.

In conclusion, before reaching for a certain job, make sure you have the required tools for it. You do that by searching through your education and/or experiences to see if you are the "one." It is a good idea to send resumes out to a number of employers at once.

How to Find a Job - Do What You Love to Find the Best Job For You

In today's free society, you have the right to work at any job you want. As you plan your job search, it is ideal to focus your search on a job you would like to do. Unfortunately, a job you'd love to do may not be in the picture. That "perfect" job may not exist, or may no longer exist:
  • Technology may have outdated it

  • It may have been outsourced overseas

  • It may have been "absorbed" into a different job

  • You may not be qualified for it

  • You may not be able to do the job because of physical limitations

  • You may face too much competition for it
There may be other issues with your perfect job as well. For instance, it might not pay enough for you to live on. Or, you might have to relocate. The hours required may also be more than you're willing to give.


The bottom line is you need to strike a balance between what your "ideal" job is and the reasonableness that you can actually find and get such a job. Finding such a balance between a job you would love doing and one in which you earn your living is not easy, and often becomes a lifetime quest. The key point is that for true happiness in life it is important to find a job you enjoy doing.

Don't be afraid to aim high. Maybe the perfect job for you seems unreachable at the moment. But just because it seems out of reach doesn't mean you can't attain it. If you really want it, plan accordingly. And then work your plan.

With the Credit Crisis looming in the UK, legal recruitment agencies are striving to find ways to escape its grips. Meanwhile, a five hour flight away is the United Arab Emirates; where the fast rate of economic growth means that legal jobs are arising quicker than a blink of the eye. So is it time for the UK legal recruitment industry to tap into the Middle East legal job market?

The Recruiter recently reported that last year there was a 7.9% increase in the total number of employees in the UAE and this figure represents growth in a variety of sectors. Building a "Recruitment Culture" in Your Organization


An important step in any recruiting strategy is to go beyond the typical employee referral program and build an internal Recruitment Culture. A Recruitment Culture is a mindset where every employee in an organization is responsible for helping to uncover talent every day. Referral bonuses or rewards are a primary tool but the mindset must be that it is in an employee's best interest to work with the best talent available - and understand the role they can play in securing that talent. A Recruitment Culture dramatically increases the amount of people and hours involved in recruiting without hiring additional recruiting staff.

To be successful employees in an organization need to understand that because of their professional and social networks they can play a significant role identifying talent brought into the organization. Because these employees are not Recruiters and are doing the actual work in the area being recruited there is automatically more credibility than if the candidate were speaking with a Recruiter or HR Representative. The employee will feel engaged, empowered and have positive things to say about the organization and position.

Rewards should be given both at the time of the referral and the time the referred candidate is hired. When an employee makes a referral give them a small cash reward, gift card or some other reward for their efforts. A cash bonus should be given when/if the referral is hired.

Career Objective in A Resume - Important Or Not?


The purpose of a career resume is simple. It is often a useful exercise to include a career objective in the resume when you wish to indicate to the reader:-

• That you are going for a more senior role to the one you are currently in or have just left and therefore your salary expectations are higher.

I Hate Small Talk! 7 Essentials For Job Search Networking

I will freely admit that in addition to being a reluctant job search networker, I also hated small talk. Slam bam whammy a double curse! When I became determined (OK, desperate) to learn how to do networking in ways that felt comfortable for me, I started interviewing people who were master networkers. That research is how I learned all the networking secrets I love to share.

Since that strategy worked so well to learn how to network, I decided to take the same approach to learn how to do small talk. I didn't expect to learn to like small talk, just to learn some ways to sound as though I liked it. As I learned some techniques that actually worked, I started to like small talk in spite of myself!

Let me share some of what I learned, just in case you hate small talk, too!
First I had to learn and then accept there is a purpose to small talk. It gives you and the other person a chance to find something that you have in common. That is the beginning of building a relationship. And you'll want to be a master of creating a relationship quickly since they are the foundation of your job search networking success. So here are some quick tips to make small talk easier for those of us who kinda hate it and/or don't do it particularly well.

• Make your first remarks quite neutral and non-threatening. Remember, the purpose of opening remarks is to let people process the sub-text that says you like them.

• Say something relevant to the situation. You may build agreement right away. For example, you may say "Beautiful place for this event, isn't it?" This would encourage your conversational partner to start agreeing with you from the first moment. This is good!

• Say something pleasant, complimentary or empathetic because your first sentence is 100% of their experience of you at that point. If your first comments are boastful, complaining, negative or sarcastic (no matter how witty or intelligent), that will be their impression of you, and it will be a difficult task to change that impression.

• You will find that acknowledging them for something they have done is a powerful way to melt the ice.

• Say something that is easy to agree with. This provides sub-text that says "we agree, we're alike, we have something in common. We can now move on to more meaningful conversation."

• Save your jokes, strong opinions, clever remarks for when you know the person better. The sub-text here says "look at me; appreciate me."

• You want your sub-text to say "I see you and I appreciate you." Keep that thought in your head and it is conveyed easily in your small talk.
