10 Top Interview Tips

Interviewing can be a daunting experience, but with some serious preparation you will be able to make things a good deal more comfortable for yourself. The accompanying tips may appear obvious but it is always worthwhile checking them off beforehand.

1 - Do you know where you're going? Check the address, look at an A-Z or check the directions on the company website. If you don't know the area then it may even be worthwhile ringing the receptionist and asking for directions.

2 - Allow yourself plenty of time to find the right location.

3 - Do you know who you are asking for, their title and responsibilities?

4 - Do you have a job description? - Have you read it?

5 - Have you called your recruitment consultant and got a last minute briefing on the job? They should also be able to help you with the type of interview, the personality of the interviewer or with any other information that you may need.

6 - Have you checked out the company's website? This will tell you all you need to know about the business and should give you some useful background.

7 - Check if they have a careers section on the website which may give you information about their values and culture. It will certainly tell you how they want to be seen by prospective employees.

8 - Make sure you know what is in your CV. Think about why you have moved on in the past, why you have made certain career decisions, what you enjoyed about certain jobs.

9 - Think clearly about what you are looking to do now and why. And think carefully about what value you would bring to a prospective employer.

10 - Make sure you know what information you want to get out of the interview and prepare a list of questions to ask. It doesn't do any harm to write them down; it shows you have prepared and you are much more likely to remember them!

By following this simple checklist, you will be far better prepared and stand a better chance of getting the job that you want.
